s a senior in high school, I decided I was going to go to college as a normal sized guy. I lost down to 160 by graduation and went to college with all new clothes because I didn’t have anything that fit. I was in heaven as I went through “rush” at Emory University where I went as a freshman. Every fraternity on campus gave me a bid !
My dad went to the University of Alabama and played football there. He finally just said I had to go there and so I transferred from Emory for my last two years in college. After graduation, I went to work for my family’s real estate business. My father went to work for his father and it was always considered my destiny to carry on the family business.
During this period, I spent lots of time partying, dating around and spending my money on convertibles and great ski boats. When I met my future wife and realized all that wouldn’t fit into my budget, my life took a drastic change. It would take all I had to be able to buy a house and support a wife and the children we soon had. My job in the family business was strangling me. I didn’t really feel like I had a choice but I soon became restless and pushed my dad to branch out into other investments. He resisted so I quit
